Lockdown Lick 380

Lockdown Licks 380. Start Me Up by The Rolling Stones.

Chordal riffs played on a Telecaster in open G tuning into a NUX M8 amp set to superlead with a little reverb.

Played “reimagined” slightly with a tone more in the Billy Gibbons style. Original riffs by Keith Richards. I enjoy both the more vintage Keith style & Billy’s more distorted style.

The song was the big hit single from the Stones 1981 album Tattoo you.

I was lucky to see the Stones on the summer tour of the album at Wembley stadium London UK.

It was a perfect summer day and they were great performing a high energy set with the crowd going ballistic when Start Me Up was played!

I was also lucky a guy at college lent me two vinyl albums by a then little known band in the UK, ZZTOP from Texas.

Within a couple of years this would all change when they soared to global fame with the album Eliminator 1983. They single handedly wrote the script to the future with their popular heavy rock/blues/boogie style.

Billy Gibbons often refers to the Stones & Keith as a major inspiration and influence.
